Itinerary

This is the beginning of the “Old World Wine” … from the incredible shipping trades of the middle centuries to the vineyards of Spain that saved the French vines during Phylloxera; you will sample and learn about many facets of the wine industry.  From an understanding of cork, a natural resource and why it is so precious, through tours of some of the most beautiful vineyards and wine landscapes, to the Solars (port wine lodges) of Oporto, where fortified wine began … it is all here in the incredible countries of Spain and Portugal.

June 3 - 6 --- The Heart of Spain

We transfer to Madrid, the city which was conceived, planned, and built when Spain was at the peak o its confidence and power.  The city became the solid and dignified seat of a great empire stretching around the world.  Today, Madrid glitters almost as much as Paris, Rome or London and parties more than any other city on the Continent, displaying its own grandeur AND the highest altitude of any European capital!  Our home base will be De Las Letras Hotel, a four star hotel located on the Gran Via, one of the best areas of Madrid - lined with cafes and perfect for exploring all the city offers.  From here, we will enjoy Rioja wines and tour the Ribera del Duero regions.
